Crown
A dental crown is a tooth-shaped cap placed over a damaged or weakened tooth to restore its shape, strength, function, and appearance. It is commonly used for severely decayed, broken, or root canal-treated teeth.
Why Do You Need a Dental Crown?
✔️ To protect weak or cracked teeth from further damage.
✔️ To restore broken or worn-down teeth.
✔️ To cover large fillings when there is not enough tooth structure left.
✔️ To strengthen root canal-treated teeth.
✔️ To support a dental bridge or cover a dental implant.
✔️ To improve aesthetics of discolored or misshapen teeth.
Types of Dental Crowns
1️⃣ Zirconia Crowns
✔️ Best for front teeth (natural appearance).
✔️ Matches the color of natural teeth.
✔️ Biocompatible (safe for gums & tissues).
2️⃣ Porcelain-Fused-to-Metal (PFM) Crowns
✔️ Stronger than all-porcelain crowns.
✔️ Good aesthetics + durability.
✔️ May show a dark metal line at the gum over time.
3️⃣ Metal Crowns
✔️ Most durable and long-lasting.
✔️ Ideal for back teeth (molars).
✔️ Highly resistant to wear and breakage.
✔️ Not tooth-colored, making them less aesthetic.
4️⃣ Temporary Crowns
✔️ Used as a short-term cover while waiting for a permanent crown.
✔️ Made of plastic or acrylic.
Dental Crown Procedure
1️⃣ Tooth Preparation – The dentist reshapes the tooth to fit the crown.
2️⃣ Impression Taking – A digital scan or mold is taken for custom crown fabrication.
3️⃣ Temporary Crown Placement – Protects the tooth until the permanent crown is ready.
4️⃣ Permanent Crown Fitting – The final crown is cemented in place.
⏳ Duration: 2 visits (1–2 weeks apart) or same-day for CEREC crowns.
